Sheriff Steve Pylant said there will be much to learn when he gets to Baton Rouge to fill the District 20 seat in the state House, but he believes he is up to the challenge.

"It's going to be a new wrinkle in uncharted waters, so to speak. The learning curb is going to be pretty high, but I'm going to try to do as I did as sheriff—get in there and do the best job for the people who elected me," he said.

Pylant, a 56 year-old Republican from Crowville, walked away from Saturday's election with more than 70 percent of the vote against Cleve Womack, a Democrat from Catahoula Parish.
