A ceremonial changing of the guard took place Saturday night as election returns revealed Kevin Cobb to be the new sheriff of Franklin Parish.

"This has been a humbling experience and I am very appreciative of the people who supported and worked so hard to help me," said Cobb. "I realize that the confidence the voters have shown in me comes with great responsibility."

Cobb defeated veteran deputy Emmitt Coleman in a head to head race for the sheriff's post.

Current sheriff Steve Pylant was on hand to congratulate Cobb as the precincts reported a landslide victory for the first-time contender.
