Winnsboro officer arrested

A Winnsboro police officer was fired after being arrested following an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend, said Police Chief Lester Thomas Jr.

Johnny Howard, of the Winnsboro police force, was booked by Rapides Parish deputies Wednesday morning on charges of second-degree battery and domestic abuse, according to authorities.

The sheriff's office reports that a warrant was issued for Howard's arrest after a woman whom he had been dating went to the Franklin Parish Medical Center emergency room on Monday to receive treatment.
