'Old Glory' takes a new stand

A flag pole erected in 1987 near the site of Winnsboro's first Walmart, store number 976, got little notice from most passersby traveling Hwy. 15 or frequenting businesses which now occupy that space.

But one Walmart associate, and those who had worked with her when that first store opened, had not forgotten how the pole came to be.

Thanks to their efforts, and with the cooperation of store manager Marvin Strong, the pole was re-dedicated Thursday morning, and a new U.S. Flag now flies proudly from it.
