Even though Franklin Parish is listed among the top 10 most improved school districts in the state, it recently brought home a "D" on its first report card issued by the Louisiana Department of Education.

A new letter grade system will replace the star rating in an effort to provide parents with a clearer depiction of school performance, according to officials.

"Obviously, we need to do better," said Superintendent Lanny Johnson. "We're up overall from last year in our performance scores and we're doing everything we can to improve our schools."
Twenty-eight percent of public schools in Louisiana earned A's or B's, but 44 percent got D's and F's under the new letter-grade evaluation system.??
