Leaner, meaner cotton modules saving farmers cash

Harvesting cotton into round modules is the latest farming craze to dapple the Franklin Parish countryside.

The smaller bales are created by a harvester that picks cotton from rows and packs it into an eight foot by eight foot round module before wrapping it in plastic.

Developed in 2009 by John Deere, the technology has the potential to cut operating and transportation expenses for cotton producers.
