Texas cattlemen find greener pastures in Franklin Parish

A sweltering drought across much of the southern United States has left many cattlemen and ranchers scrambling for enough hay to feed their stock, driving many to social networking and Franklin Parish for a solution.

Local producer Roland Campbell Jr. said he is contacted daily by cattlemen in Texas and Oklahoma to purchase bales currently being cut from his harvested wheat fields.

"Those folks are in trouble and there's a lot of price-gouging going on and that's not right," said Campbell. "We've been baling the cut wheat fields, which actually saves the farmer from having to spray or burn it off, so it benefits us all."
