City council rejects auditor choice

Winnsboro remains without an auditor after the city council refused to hire an accounting firm recommended by Mayor Jackie Johnson at a special called meeting on Thursday.

It was the third time the council has met to decide on who should be chosen to conduct the annual audit.

Long-time city auditors, Marcus, Robinson and Hassell, announced in August that the firm would no longer be working for Winnsboro. The city is about three months behind on starting its annual audit.

Two Monroe accounting firms—William R. Hulsey Accounting and Luffey, Huffman and Soignier—were considered at the Aug. 15 regular meeting and again at an adjourned meeting on Aug. 23.
