The U.S. Department of Justice has approved new voting districts for Franklin Parish and those changes have been implemented, according to Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler.

The Franklin Parish Police Jury formed the realignment in March in Monroe at the North Delta Regional Planning and Development District. New voting districts were needed to reflect population changes recorded in last year's census count.

By law, districts must be drawn so that minority populations will not lose large numbers.
