Story Archives: Veterans to receive hometown discounts

Veterans to receive hometown discounts
by Tom Bonnette - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Some Franklin Parish businesses are rolling back prices for those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The idea began when Alvin Hatten, of VFW Post 3155, discovered on a trip to Monroe that some stores there give a 10 percent discount to veterans.

"I started thinking that people shouldn't go to Monroe to shop when they could be shopping here," Hatten said. "I went to some of the larger businesses here and they decided to do it."

"Hopefully, some of the smaller businesses will decide to do it. This is a good way to keep people home, instead of going to Monroe to spend their money," Hatten added.
