Man grows extraordinary gourd in Baskin garden

Donnie Flint of Winnsboro surprised the staff of The Franklin Sun on Friday by bringing in a 53-inch gourd.

Flint said he "just hung it high and let it grow until it touched the ground," in his garden on Flint Road. The elongated vegetable could come in handy, Flint said, recalling an incident from his childhood.

He remembers a preacher coming to his family's home when he was a boy to partake of his mother's fried chicken.
