Ship builder to bring 450 jobs to northeast La.

A barge manufacturer will open a plant in neighboring Madison Parish that will create more than 450 jobs over the next five years.

The Garyville-based company, St. John's Enterprises, plans to invest $32 million in upgrades to open the facility at the Madison Parish Port in Tallulah, according to a Monday press release from Gov. Bobby Jindal.

In December, shipbuilder Northrop Grumman closed at the port with a loss of about 100 jobs.
