Bob Allen shares love of Karate with students at Winnsboro dojo

Affectionately known in the eastern hemisphere as "Gaijin," Bob Allen has learned from the masters of the world how to embody the art and soul of Karate.

Throughout his 45-year career, Allen approaches his students with the same philosophical skills and physical contact techniques he learned from the masters of the sport.

Allen has served as a karate student, instructor and world-class referee during his career.

After his U.S. Army tour as a Marine in Vietnam ended in 1970, Allen relocated to Japan for five years to study karate. "Gaijin," translated from the Japanese means "foreigner," and that he was.

As a wavy-haired blonde, a foot taller than most of the population, Allen was initiated in the ways of the Japanese culture that made him one of their own.
