City to donate land for parish rodeo arena

The Franklin Parish Police Jury is waiting for the Winnsboro City Council's approval on a plan to donate 18 acres of land located in the city's industrial park to move ahead with construction of a rodeo arena.

In a joint meeting of the two government bodies last Tuesday, city officials said they were open to the idea and would vote to donate the land where the arena would be built.

The vote is expected to come at the council's next regular meeting on Monday.

The joint meeting was held at the Winnsboro Industrial Park at the former Vineyard Furniture International facility.

Officials were hoping to utilize $1.3 million in state money that has been slated for the project to renovate part of the Vineyard Furniture building into a horse pavilion, but the state will only allow the money to be used for new construction.
