Alexander: Amendment must pass

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander said an amendment to the Constitution forcing Congress to balance the federal budget would have to be included in any plan to raise the national debt ceiling.

"I think it will have a better chance of passing next week. I think it will come back and have some changes to it, but the House isn't going to do anything without an amendment that will balance the budget," Alexander said on Friday, shortly after the Senate tabled the House-passed Cut, Cap and Balance Act, effectively killing the bill.
