Boating deaths are on the rise in Louisiana, with two bodies recently being pulled from the Mississippi River near Baton Rouge.

Over the weekend, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents recovered the bodies of two men who were reported missing after taking a fishing trip in the Mississippi.

Closer to home, 69-year-old James Thomas, of Crowville, drowned in a boating accident at Crockett Point Lake in March.

LDWF officials say the deaths are indicative of an alarming increase in the number of boating deaths in the state. There have already been 27 boating related deaths reported in Louisiana this year. During all of 2010, there were 21.
