Philips promoted to Navy Lieutenant

David John Philips is being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant JG in the United States Navy. Philips is currently serving on his first sea tour as an officer on the USS Rhode Island ballistic missile submarine.

He recently qualified "engineering officer of the watch" from the nuclear power program at the naval weapons station in Charleston, S.C. This qualification is recognized by the US Navy and the department of energy as a supervisor of nuclear power.

Philips graduated from Crowville High School in 2004, where he played four years of soccer and baseball.

He then entered the University of Louisiana at Monroe on a full presidential scholarship where he graduated with honors in mathematics.
