Officials address fishing concerns

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries officials expect fish populations, which have declined in Turkey Creek Lake since last year's drawdown, to return to normal levels in a couple of years.

That's welcome news to locals who traveled to Baton Rouge last Tuesday to express concerns about the lake's fish population to Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham and Director of Inland Fisheries Mike Wood.

It does little, however, to make up for money lost to the parish and businesses due to current conditions at the popular fishing resort.

Allen Butler, a competitive fisherman, organized the meeting which was also attended by Franklin Parish Police Jury President Ricky Campbell, Winnsboro Mayor Jackie Johnson and other fishermen and business owners who depend on sportsmen who fish at the lake.
