Officials scan parish for site to land airport

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials and engineers are scanning parts of Franklin Parish to find the right place for a new airport.

The relocation of the Winnsboro Municipal Airport, currently southeast of the city, has been a point of discussion for years, but indications are that a move could soon be a reality.

City officials confirm that Volkert, Inc., a New Orleans engineering firm, has narrowed its search for land that could soon be purchased for a new airport.

"They are studying now the best place to locate it. As soon as they finish figuring out the general area of where to place it, the work will begin to acquire the land," said Skipper Stinson, Winnsboro's city supervisor.
