Locals angling for fish solution

Local fishermen, business owners and politicians will travel to Baton Rouge next month to discuss the declining fish populations in Turkey Creek Lake with state officials.

The meeting, scheduled with Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham on July 12, is being organized by Allen Butler, a competitive fisherman. Butler believes that the lake's game fish population has suffered greatly because of the LDWF drawdown to fight the giant salvinia population.

"We are not going with our fingers pointed at anyone." Butler said. "We just want to let them know that we have a distinct interest in Turkey Creek and the impact this is having on Franklin Parish."
