Legislators pleased with session success

Legislators serving Franklin Parish in Baton Rouge are touting the recent two-month regular sessions as a success, despite obstacles in passing a $25 billion state operating budget and other controversial measures.

For Rep. Noble Ellington, R-Winnsboro, the state House of Representatives coming to a rare consensus on the budget during his final days as a lawmaker, was especially satisfying.

Ellington recently announced he would not be running for re-election this fall, ending 24-years of public life that included multiple terms in the House and Senate.

"We wound up with a budget that received 100 percent of the vote in the House and that's an accomplishment that I'm not sure that's ever happened before," he said.
