Story Archives: Ellington's exit

Ellington's exit
by Tom Bonnette - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
After 24 years of serving in the state House of Representatives and the Senate, Noble Ellington will no longer be in the Louisiana Legislaturea — a loss for Franklin Parish.

It's often hard for poorer, rural sections of Louisiana to have their voices heard in Baton Rouge, but Noble has done his constituents proud.

As I write this at The Franklin Sun, I don't have to go far to find Noble's footprint in his hometown.

Across the street is the Old Post Office Museum, from which I could almost thrown a stone and hit the Princess Theatre.

Noble had a hand in bringing both of these Winnsboro historic buildings back to life.

If I walk north a block, I will see the Franklin Parish Council on Aging.

Another stone-throw is the Jack Hammons Community Center, where the city council meeting that I just attended was held.

These last two buildings would most likely not exist if not for Noble.
