Rain relieves ravaged crops Even with rain bringing a welcome respite, Franklin Parish continues to swelter under a prolonged drought.
Agriculture officials say the conditions could harm farmers as much as the recent backwater flooding of the Mississippi River.
"When you look at the overall effect of the flooding we have had, with the equivalent of two to three million acres of production lost, we expect that the drought will have as great an economic impact," said state Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain.
