Story Archives: Ellington calls for constitutional convention

Ellington calls for constitutional convention
by Tom Bonnette - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
State Rep. Noble Ellington wants Louisiana to make history by being among the first states to call for a constitutional convention to ratify an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

House Concurrent Resolution 87, introduced by Ellington, R-Winnsboro, in the regular legislative session has cleared the House and Governmental Affairs Committee and is currently making its way through the Senate.

Ellington's resolution is meant to prompt other states to join Louisiana for a constitutional convention to create an amendment that would force the federal government to get approval from a majority of states to raise the national debt ceiling.

If approved, Louisiana would join North Dakota in calling for a constitutional convention to address the debt ceiling problem.
