Story Archives: Friends, fun found at open house Saturday

Friends, fun found at open house Saturday

Franklin Parish residents got the chance to adopt new friends as they toured the Winnsboro Humane Facility during an open house held at the new shelter, located in the city's industrial park off La. Highway 15.

The event, which took place June 4, was to promote the positive changes that have happened in Winnsboro animal control over the last year and to raise money for those who are helping the city by fostering animals.

Along with animal adoptions, people enjoyed horseback rides, balloon jumpers, door prizes and snow cones at the event.

Winnsboro shut down the old animal shelter off Robinson Road last year after poor treatment of dogs there was reported by The Franklin Sun, which led to a criminal investigation.

The investigation ended with no indictments and new holding pens for dogs were purchased by the city for $14,000 and placed in Winnsboro Industrial Park.
