Chapman sees increase

The city of Winnsboro saw a 20 percent rise in youth baseball and softball participation in 2011 and that momentum will carry over to the city hosting a number of prestigious regional and state tournaments this summer.

"It is going to be really good," Winnsboro Dixie Youth Director Brad Chapman said. "There will be teams from all over the state coming to Winnsboro."

Chapman stated the city will host the 13-14 year old district tournament July 2 while the Pre-Majors and Majors district and state tournaments will also come to Winnsboro in July.

This is the second consecutive year that Winnsboro has been selected to host the Pre-Major and Major tournaments.
