Story Archives: Arrests imminent in eagle death

Arrests imminent in eagle death
by Tom Bonnette - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Arrests could soon be made in the death of a mutilated bald eagle found in a Franklin Parish ditch in April.

Speaking to members of the Senate Finance Committee last week, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Robert Barham reportedly said that two suspects have been identified in the bird's death.

Investigators have also found an eagle head, he said. It isn't known if the head was found in the suspects' possession.

An eagle that had been shot and decapitated was discovered in a drainage ditch in southern Franklin Parish on April 3.

The head found by LDWF agents reportedly doesn't match the body found in the ditch, leading investigators to conclude the suspects are responsible for the death of at least two eagles.
