Gilbert Junior High School will have a new principal for the upcoming school year, according to the Franklin Parish School Board.

Principal George Johnson recently retired from the position after many years as an administrator and educator in the system.

By unanimous vote, members of the board approved a recommendation by Supertindent Lanny Johnson to name Vanessa Adams as principal of Gilbert School. A roll call vote was taken to approve the measure.

Adams was among the top three candidates recommended to the superintendent by a personnel committee appointed to review submitted applications.

Transportation director Benton Moore will also retire this year after 30 years in the school system.

"We have enjoyed working with you and we appreciate everything you have done here," said Johnson to Moore at Monday's meeting. "You've gone above and beyond in your efforts and we want to thank you for everything you've done."
