Johnson proposes health clinic
by Tom Bonnette - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Winnsboro Mayor Jackie Johnson would like to see an additional safety net for people without medical insurance who he describes as falling through the system's cracks.

Johnson was at Thursday's regular meeting of Franklin Medical Center's board of commissioners to push a plan to help create a Federally Qualified Health Center, known as a FQHC, in Winnsboro.

The FQHC model is funded under the Health Center Consolidation Act and offers primary care, dental, behavioral health and preventative healthcare services to people, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. A similar federally funded health center, Wisner Rural Health Clinic, exists in Wisner.

"The primary people who would benefit from this are the under-served. It would be for the people who do not receive any service at this time," Johnson said.
