Organizers of Franklin Parish's Progressive Agriculture Safety Day program believe that some things are best taught outside the classroom and it doesn't hurt to throw in a little fun.

To this end, fifth-graders from schools across the parish recently gathered at the Franklin Cotton Warehouse in Winnsboro for some hands-on experience to learn how to be safe on and off farms.

"The purpose of all this is to teach students different aspects of safety on the farm, at home and on the water in an interactive way," said Jimmy Harper, event coordinator.
