Story Archives: Aultman signs with Hinds

Aultman signs with Hinds

It was a long-shot for 18 year-old Nathan Aultman to be awarded a baseball scholarship, but he believes he had some good help getting there.

"It's the answer to my prayers, God has really blessed me," Aultman said, after signing up last Friday to pitch for Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss.

Besides God, perseverance, dedicated parents, support from Mangham High School and a new law helped. Aultman, who was home schooled, was left blind in his left eye from a hunting accident when he was 13.

"To see your child have his dream come true is so much joy. It's the work of the Lord. He is not even supposed to have the depth-perception to be able to pitch the was he does," said his father, Rick Aultman.

A law passed last year in Louisiana allows home schoolers to participate in public school activities like sports and gave Aultman the chance to shine on Manham High School baseball diamond in his senior year.

"He got to play for us and I enjoyed him. He's a great young man who will go far in life," said Mangham High School Baseball Coach Scott Wilcher
