Jindal presents LGAP grants

Five Local Government Assistance Program (LGAP) grants totaling $139,000 were awarded by Gov. Bobby Jindal to Franklin Parish for infrastructure improvements.

Jindal presented a ceremonial check to local officials at Family Community Christian School in Winnsboro on May 1.

The Franklin Parish Police Jury received a $4,000 grant to help purchase four public works vehicles; Wisner received a $35,000 grant to clean and re-coat the inside of the water tower; Baskin received a $25,000 grant to purchase police vehicles and equipment; and Gilbert received a $25,000 grant to purchase a tractor and a mower for public works.
Winnsboro Mayor Jackie Johnson said the $50,000 grant that the city received from the program would be used to purchase police cars.

"We will buy two new police cars with the amount we were given.

This should put us in pretty good shape as far as police vehicles are concerned," he said.
