State working with parish to improve Turkey Creek drainage Turkey Creek is rising quickly and Franklin Parish officials want to change that. To help increase the waterway's flow, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is using electronic monitoring equipment this week to gather information that officials plan to use when the creek is either dredged or widened sometime next year.
"We are working hand-in-hand with the state to make improvements for needed drainage that can be done without harming water quality," said Ken McManus, a consulting engineer for the parish.
State workers began installing the equipment on Tuesday and tests will be conducted until Thursday. The equipment is located north of Winnsboro to the Hwy. 128 bridge, east of Jigger, according to state officials. For the full story, subscribe to the The Franklin Sun's NEW E-Edition! |
