Parish law enforcement and emergency personnel will go live with new updated radio equipment on Monday, May 9, according to officials.

Funds granted by a provision to strengthen the interoperability of emergency communication through the Office of Homeland Security, have enabled city and parish officials to upgrade radio equipment to the 700 megahertz band.

After Hurricane Katrina devastated the system between dispatchers and emergency personnel, the Office of Homeland Security was established in part to develop a new system of communication.
