Story Archives: Dumas recall dropped

Dumas recall dropped
by Tom Bonnette - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
There will not be a second recall election petition filed against Winnsboro Councilman John "Sonny" Dumas, said a member of the committee that formed a few weeks ago to oust him from office.

"Together we stand and divided we fall and I feel like last night we came together and that's all I'm going to say," said Angelae Malone, the woman who helped her husband, Monya Malone, spearhead an attempt to remove Dumas from his District 2 council seat.

Malone, who briefly addressed the city council concerning the recall effort during Monday's regular meeting, wouldn't go into any details about what was discussed with Dumas that led to the decision to abandon the recall effort.

A petition for a recall election of Dumas sent by Monya Malone on March 15 to the Louisiana Secretary of State's Office was recently returned for not being filed properly.

The Malones told The Franklin Sun that they would soon produce a letter outlining the reasons they believed that Dumas should be removed from office, but the letter never came.
