Story Archives: Jurors solicit input on redistricting

Jurors solicit input on redistricting

The Franklin Parish Police Jury wants to know what the public thinks about new voting districts maps and residents will get the chance to tell them next month at a public hearing.

Jurors are set to vote on district realignments, but only after the public has been given a chance to speak out about proposed changes to reflect population shifts recorded in the 2010 Census. The police jury scheduled the hearing during Thursday's regular meeting.

The hearing on the maps will take place at 6 p.m. on May 12, at the Franklin Parish Courthouse, followed by the jury's regular monthly meeting in which a vote is expected for approval of the new maps.

"We have the maps ready to go and people now have the chance to go by the courthouse and see how their district will change, before it has to be sent to the state for final approval," said Franklin Parish Police Jury President Ricky Campbell.
