Wisner water not spring clean; aldermen tap solution

Spring cleaning began in the community of Wisner last week and some residents are wondering if the effort will include cleaning the water lines.

Wisner resident Loretta Peoples addressed members of the Wisner Town Council Thursday evening during their regular meeting. She presented a pitcher of water taken from the tap at her residence which turned dark in color when she stirred the sediment settled at the bottom.

"It has gotten a little better over the past two weeks," said Peoples. "But this is a health concern and it's happening in several places throughout the community."

Aldermen Thomas More said the murky water was a result of sediment buildup in the lines. Fire hydrants around town are periodically opened to "flush" the system of any sediment left by the flow.

Where there is less water being used, More explained, the "back-flushing" effect sometimes does not clear the lines completely.
