Don't text and Drive: Officials launch awareness program

Text messaging can be dangerous when driving and people driving on La. 15 will now have a stark reminder of the danger for the next few weeks.

A wrecked car was placed along La. 15 in Winnsboro on Tuesday in a joint effort by the Winnsboro City Court and Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office to give people who text and drive a glimpse into what their future could look like. The visual reminder is timed with the Catfish Festival, which draws thousands of people to Franklin Parish every year.

"We were aiming for prom season, but we decided that this would be a good time. We are concerned about anyone, but really with young people, texting while driving," said Winnsboro City Court Judge Ann McIntyre. "We just wanted to highlight the dangers surrounding this with a visual."
