Hours established at animal shelter

Winnsboro Director of Animal Affairs Russell Grant will now be on hand at the city animal shelter on weekdays from noon to 1 p.m. to help people who are trying to locate their lost pets or wanting to adopt new ones, according to city officials.

The move to have Grant remain the shelter one hour during weekdays is part of a push by the city to help with problem concerning the animal population.

The Winnsboro City Council approved purchasing a new animal shelter, located in Winnsboro Industrial Park, for $14,000 in August after a criminal investigation was lunched into treatment of dogs at the old shelter.

The case ended with charges being dropped by a grand jury in September.
