Patriots begin District 3-4 A: face Bastrop Rams this week
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Franklin Parish Patriots (7-6) will be back on the baseball field Thursday as they begin District 3-4A play against the Bastrop Rams.
The Patriots are still struggling to find consistency after going 2-2 in the Caldwell Parish tournament last week.

The Patrots beat a top rated team when they downed No. 3 Grant, 11-0 but were beaten just one day later by Caldwell, 12-2. On Saturday the Patriots split a doubleheader with a 11-4 win over LaSalle and another loss to Caldwell, 11-1. It was the third loss of the year to the Caldwell Spartans.

"I know I sound like a broken record but it is all about consistency," FPHS head coach Lynn Middleton said. "We came out focused and ready to play a good Grant team and were successful. That is the type of team we have the potential to be. We then come out not focused and don't play well. It is about finding consistency now and getting ready to play in pre-game and staying focused."

The Patriots have had some very solid outings offensively as of late. The Patriots have scored more than 10 runs in three of their last six games. Ethan Bass leads the team in hitting with a .400 average while Brian Moroni is hitting .375 for the Patriots.
Nathan Gallup and Michael Whitley have each hit two home runs for the Patriots.
The Patriots now face off with the Bastrop Rams to begin district play.

The Patriots always expect a competitive series with the Rams.

"They are a quality team," Middleton said. "For us to beat them and win the series we have to play good baseball. We have to do things the way we need to. We have to pitch well until we can get the bats going and hit the ball."

Bastrop will be expecting a tough defensive battle against the Rams because of their dynamic pitching staff.
