Catfish Festival to mark milestone with flare

The countdown continues for the silver anniversary edition of the Franklin Parish Catfish Festival scheduled for April 9 in Winnsboro.

The day-long event commemorates the 25th annual festival that began on the grounds of Winnsboro Elementary School in 1987. Since that time, the festival has spread to take up much of the historic downtown Winnsboro shopping district, and is known as the state's largest one-day festival.

With good weather, the festival will bring thousands of people to historic downtown Winnsboro.

"There will be something at the festival for everyone who attends," said festival director Paul Price Jr. "A pretty day will bring upwards of 20,000 people to Franklin Parish, and we're certainly hopeful that good weather is in the forecast."

Price noted that last-minute details are currently being worked out. Stage placements, electrical hookups, the marking of booth spaces on the street, and gate volunteers are just a few of the many details that must be taken care of prior to festival day.
