Story Archives: La. Humane Society forms local chapter

La. Humane Society forms local chapter
by Tom Bonnette - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
In the wake of last year's controversy over the treatment of animals, a chapter of the Humane Society of Louisiana has been started in Franklin Parish.

About 20 people attended the first meeting of the newly formed non-profit organization that was held Monday night at the Princess Room in Winnsboro.

"The meeting went great. We had several sign up as members and volunteers. What's most important is the member support and volunteer support. With these, we can do fund drives and special events that will bring a lot of people into our parish and together we can make our parish a pet friendly parish," said Mark Couch, founder and president of the Franklin Parish chapter.

Officers were chosen at the meeting including Vice President Margaret Smith, Web Administrator Brandon Sims and Secretary and Treasurer Dee Cassiday.
