A Winnsboro man was arrested on last Saturday for allegedly burning his home down in a scheme to defraud his insurance company.

Jeffrey Todd Barfield, 44, of 7897 La. Highway 17, was arrested by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office, and charges with arson with attempt to defraud, after an investigation revealed evidence that the fire was set intentionally. The fire reportedly happen on Feb. 7 around 9 a.m.

No one was home and no firefighters were hurt putting the blaze out, according to officials.

"Basically, we believe this to be a case of fraud, but we can't say right now what we found," said Chip Stevens," an investigator with the fire marshal's office.
