New exhibit angles for local interests

Those fishing for a good time in Winnsboro should take a trip downtown to the "Gone Fishin'" exhibit at the Old Post Office Museum, which opens Thursday and will run until April 29.

The exhibit, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Catfish Festival, features fishing-themed art by Andrea May and Melanie Douthit, of the Mystic Art Gallery in West Monroe, as well as many displays sure to catch a fisherman's eye.

"This is as good as it gets. It's wonderful art that displays community heritage and stories. It's what every rural museum should strive for," said Winnsboro Main Street Manager Kay LaFrance-Knight.

Antique lures, rods and other mementoes of fishing days past will be on display at the museum. There will also be a film of Franklin Parish in the 1940's that was captured through the lens of an old 35-millimeter home movie camera owned by the McLemore family of Winnsboro.
