Lancaster sworn in as interim DA

John M. "Mack" Lancaster was sworn in as interim district attorney for the 5th Judicial District on Tuesday.

Lancaster, long-time assistant district attorney under retired District Attorney Billy Coenen, was sworn in at the Oak Grove Courthouse in West Carroll Parish. Retired District Judge Glen W. Strong administered the oath of office. Coenen tapped Lancaster to succeed him in late December, when he announced that he would retire on March 1. Coenen has been district attorney since 1984.

The 5th Judicial District consists of Franklin, Richland and West Carroll Parishes.
Lancaster announced in January that he would run for the office in a special election to be held in October.

He is the second person to make his attention to run for the position known. David Doughty, a Rayville attorney, also announced his candidacy in January.

Lancaster, 59, said on Monday that he would keep an open door to those he serves as interim district attorney.
