Story Archives: Town of Wisner to bloom with tulips

Town of Wisner to bloom with tulips
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The widely anticipated spring showing of approximately 40,000 spring bulbs is right around the corner in Wisner, at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Thomas Hilbun. Located at the Hilbun home at 1193 Calhoun Road, the bulk of the spring bulbs are comprised primarily of 27 varieties of tulips in every imaginable color in a spring palette, complemented with thousands of cobalt blue grape hyacinths.

The tradition, entering its ninth year, has been inspired by the world-famous Keukenhof, considered by many to be one of the most photographed places in the world, and located in the heart of the bulb growing region of Holland.

Bloom time is expected to begin mid-March, and continue throughout the month, depending on the local weather. Unseasonably warmer weather in February has accelerated the growth of the tulips and will cause bloom time to be earlier this year.
