Franklin Academy went 1-2 at the South State A Tournament in Rayville, earning the No. 4 seed from the South for the state tournament in Benton, Ms, which started Tuesday.

Franklin faced North No. 1 seed Tunica in the first game.

Franklin defeated Tallulah 59-37 in its first game at South State in Rayville.

Tallulah led Franklin 17-16 after one period, but the Cougars outscored the Trojans 14-5 in the second quarter for a 30-22 halftime lead.

Franklin led 40-26 after three periods.

Kalin Howington led Franklin with 13 points, followed by Britt Grieme and Cedric Allen with 12 points each and Ryan Sullivan with 10.

Howington added 13 rebounds, while John Ross Newman had six blocked shots in the contest.
