A letter sent with a Winnsboro water bill is creating controversy and being criticized by Winnsboro City Councilmen as a waste of taxpayer money.

The letter, written by Mayor Jackie Johnson, attacks those on the council who did not support some of his initiatives at the January regular meeting, accusing them of voting "against job creation and prosperity, using the political games and trickery to get around the economic benefits, which these people wanted to do from the start." Johnson also wrote that the councilmen are guilty of "good-ole-boy gamesmanship," and of being guided by "personal animosity and desires."

Councilmen John "Sonny" Dumas and Richard Mahoney, the two councilmen Johnson mentions in the letter, said they were disappointed that the mayor is using water bills in an attempt to strong-arm his agenda.
