A Winnsboro man was arrested on Friday for allegedly burning his home down on New Year's Day in an attempt to fraudulently collect insurance money.

David C. Brent, 31, of 476 Curtis Traxler Road, was arrested by Louisiana State Police officers, and charged with Arson with attempt to defraud, after an investigator with the State Fire Marshall's Office uncovered evidence that indicated he set the fire intentionally, according to law enforcement officials.

Officials said they were not able to comment at this time on why they think the fire was part of a scheme to defraud his home-owner insurance company.
