Property tax revenues in Franklin Parish are expected to surge by nearly $400,000 which Franklin Parish Tax Assessor Rod Elrod attributes to an increase in natural gas pipeline construction in 2010.
Elrod said on Monday that collections on individual property taxes are slated to bring in $5.37 million this year. Last year's tax collections added around $5 million to parish coffers.
"It's an unexpected growth primarily because of the pipelines activity and we hope to be able to see more of it in the coming year," Elrod said.
As in 2009, four of the top six property taxpayers in Franklin were companies with gas pipelines in the parish. Those companies hold more than $1.2 million of combined tax obligations for 2010.
Regency Intrastate was the top assessed corporation, with a value of $4.1 million and a $391,356 tax liability.
